Update #2 I’ve patched my PS3 Slim (OFW it came with was 3.40) and no brick here. Multiman backup manager works just fine too! (Its was already installed)
Update: There are reports of Bricked PS3 Slim Units. Waninkoko has posted:

I flashed this on my Ps3 Slim 160gb CECH2501A. It works but does anyone know the Path to which the backups are stored on THIS cfw? I must ask because I backup with comgenies file manager instead of MultiMan.

1. Get a copy of Sony OFW 3.55. Put this on a USB drive under /PS3/UPDATE
2. I’m assuming you’re using a PS3 Slim. Turn it off. Unplug it just to make sure, then plug it back in.
3. Press and hold down the power button. Keep it pressed down! The PS3 will start, then it will turn itself off.
4. Let go of the power button, then press and hold it down again. The PS3 will beep, and a few seconds later will beep twice rapidly. Let go of the power button now.
5. You’re now in Service Mode. You’ll have to activate your PS3 controller (it has to be plugged in via USB). You’ll have a set of choice – the last choice (I believe number 6) is Update your PS3.
6. Select this. It’ll tell you to press start + select at the same time if you have the PS3 update available. You do because you set this up in Step 1.
7. Follow the directions from there. This will get you back to official 3.55.
As a side note, anything you installed with the Geohot patch *will still be installed and likely still work*. (After all, it’s signed and an “official” PS3 app according to the system).
That’s it! Now if you want to install the Waninkoko pup, follow the same instructions.

i installed the cfw , no brick everythings seems be fine , but when i go to app_home/ps3_game i get a error , nd i backup my blackops but i cant play it off hdd , did i do something wrong ?

OK, Im just wondering how the process would be for installing on a Phat 60GB Model (US)? Also, according to the Readme (got this from PSX scene), have to patch OFW with the CFW using BSDIFF tool. Im sorry but that is a little difficult unless there is another program to use with it I have not hear of. Have no idea on how to patch this to OFW. Drag and drop, what?
Wondering if there will be a GUI soon for patching.

if u want to prevent a brick, avoid this cfw. a lot of phat 60gb owners bricked theirs with this. Don’t make the same mistake!

OK. Thank you. Will wait for a corrected release then. On psx scene, they had to close the thread due to a lot of ppl asking either stupid questions or a lot of bricks. Hopefully will be corrected soon. Also, think I figured out how to go about this.
Apparently have to open CMD and do it. Suggest when the correct version is out, a explanation of exactly what to type would help. All I can do is get as far as the Directory of the folder and there I am clueless.

Um, dont know if anyone else has noticed this, but for some reason, on this site, it says do not install on the Phat models with the above mentioned Model numbers. However, on PSX scene and psgroove, it says not to install on 60GB Slim models. Anyone know who/which is correct? LOL

I can say that if you have an original 250 gb slim model… it will work, but you will lose bd support and when backing up with MULTIman you will lose your save files…. I should have waited longer to go ahead and install and let someone else be the rodent… but I got excited and went ahead… atleast I have more than a black brick now! ……….. I had the pee/poke edited geo 3.55 and I reinstalled ofw then ran the patched pup from the xmb… I can’t attest to writing over geo’s cfw.

I installed this firmware on a 160 new slim model, ran like a dream. I was wondering if I installed this on a system will it allow the playing of deactivated content? Like rock band DLC.

heey, i can swear to you guys this CFW runs in my PS3 FAT CECHK 80GB but and absoluty ALL was good with it until something happened asjdhasf i wonder if it was a punishment of sony or something but 0% of my videos worked it crashes and just leame the option to turn off asjdhasf is there a way to fix this? until then i come back to OFW :1

you do not have to patch the games once this CFW is installed!!!!! all you have to do is load Rogero backup manger, and play, but make sure once the rogero back up manager is installed you press square (asking you to enter any PS3 game) and boom! playing off the hard drive!

bloody useless Big Wanin has epic failed on this no matter what folks say. I feel sorry for the folks who in good trust used this… i hope he and other devs at least try to find a way to restore the bricks…(esp for ppl that have backed up there dev_flash dirs).
I would steer clear from this no matter what… (zerooooooo in lv2 just don’t make sense).
better to run Geo rls then this if you’re after h/brew, 3.41 with patched eboots for the playas..:-)

you just have to be on sonys ofw 3.55, then download this http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/260 and place it on a usb in PS3/ UPDATE/ then rename it to PS3UPDAT.PUP. then just udate your ps3 via storage device.

so… whats up? is it safe or not? theres like 6 different pages here with different procedures… my ps3 is an ’08 (fat) CECH(K) (which is not on the “do not use” list). going by this, my model is supportive of this. i am of course at ofw 3.55. ive seen that upon using this peoples disc drives are crapping out, with exceptions to some, and with a fix for most (via a different app). my main concern is not bricking, but just wasting my time.. is this worth it atm or should i sit back, enjoy my hacked psp, and wait on further progress for the ps3? im seeing that you can backup your owned ps3 games, i have 7 total right now, and about 2-3 more lent to a couple friends. so.. this said. my 80gb hdd isnt going to be nearly large enough to hold them all. is there a way to backup, transfer to my pc/ ext hdd for safe keeping untill im ready to play them, and then be able to put them back onto my ps3 without having to re-copy them from the disc? my concern with backing up isnt the discs, is the disc reader itself (which to be so expensive are so cheap…) because if you know how to take care of shit, your blu ray disc wont get damaged. though i have noticed slight scuffs, marks on the outside edges of my games (not sure if it was from having ps3 standing vertical so i layed it flat and havent noticed any new marks.) is this worth the effort? since mainly all it does is run homebrew (awesome) and emulators (my psp can.. and also have av – to – component cable so my psp can be ran on my hdtv.)

you have the same modle as me it works great with offical 5.55 heres a vid but what id dosen tell you is you need geohot installed first so do geohot first then this one on the vid. find and use rogero 7.9 for back up manager.

see everyone il tell you this although you can make your PS 3 custom firm ware 1.50 to 3.55 the only thing is it may unlock the features to place old game console games like nintendo snes genesis turbo grafix atari music pics etc but when you buy a bran new game . it wont cause them to play at all . thats the down side to this like lets say you buy GOD OF WAR 3 or example MARVEL VS CAPCOM 3 or other newer games that come out they wont run on your ps3 at all cause they will say they need to update 6.50 offical etc then your system will be stuck and screwed can get bricked and void the warrenty everyone doesnt realize this untill they do it . it wont play bran new games im telling you .
