PSN was hacked after all. The rumor was true. They have finally admitted why PSN has been offline for so long. PSN was hacked. All your info was stolen. Name, Address, country and the scary part credit card info too. Wonderful, there PSN security was poor. Now its offline as Sony has hired a security firm to try and find out how and who did the hacking. Here’s part of the official statement below from the PSN blog.
Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:
We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011, certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account information was compromised in connection with an illegal and unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this intrusion, we have:
- Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;
- Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a full and complete investigation into what happened; and
- Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our network infrastructure by re-building our system to provide you with greater protection of your personal information.
We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly and efficiently as practicable.
Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained. If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent, the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained. While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

It stands to reason that if the PSP has been hacked so many times, and the PS3 was finally hacked to a certain extent, that the Playstation Network itself was vulnerable in some way as well.
Though I do feel compelled to ask the question:
If Sony hadn’t thrown around the legal-hammer so much lately, would the personal information of thousands of legitimate customers still be safe as I write this?

people credit card details never got took thats the reason they stopped saying it on the news as sony said on the blog that people credit card details MIGHT have been took but they worn’t shore but my mate who works for sony said that people details are saved on a different system and is built in an un hackable way which they are doing with the new rebuilt system so people ur details are safe trust me.

mate i never said that move or the wii was better yh kinnect is better then them both but really they copied sony as they come up with it first with eyetoy on ps2 so really everything microsoft does is just a copy of sony the new xbox is shit as the old 1 but microsoft finally done something good with kinnect but with the shit games on it and better games on ps move the ps move has had more sales like the ps3 over xbox.

you are the people that took the playstation network offline. You are supporting the hacking community and by downloading and jailbreaking your ps3 is just contributing to their success. 99% dont jailbreak their ps3 to try new coding or watever, they do it to hack games. if ur gonna hack, do it on a pc and it only affects you. Dont support hackers because you all are pissed that the psn will be down until probably after may 31, but you supported jailbreakers and this is what caused the attack. Thanks to all of you and this website for ruining 77 million psn users…
