Yesterday activity on the Ps3 homebrew scene really started to get moving. Only a few days have passed since Geohot released his 3.55 Mfw (Modified firmware).
Geohot then announced his Signed homebrew app with a video showcasing his efforts:
Next from Geohot came some tools that allowed you to Sign our homebrew so that it could run on 3.55 Mfw.
Not much followed this in terms of Self Signed homebrew, until another app was released. This time however it was not Geohot’s app but that of FamousMassacre. The Ps3 .PKG Signer GUI was released.
Following this release came updated homebrew PKG’s that had been resigned to run on 3.55 Mfw.

Backups do not work, even with the Signed backup manager, this is because it is not a Cfw, it is just a modified version on Ofw.

This is good progress, i don’t support privacy, i prefer homebrew apps to make my ps3 more interesting ^_^

It is because of people like you pirates that almost no one makes good games for the PSP anymore. Piracy is even killing the WII as developers see that they actually lose money trying to make a game that people are just going to download for free anyways. Their games are selling less and they are making a lot less money. Why would you want this for PS3. I applaud homebrew because it shows the ingenuity of those who take the time and effort to make their PS3 more “theirs”. Besides do you know how hard piracy is on the PS3??? Each game is on a bluray disk which is meant to hold a lot of memory. Not only would it take a long time to download but then you would have to burn it to a blu ray disk which is expensive not to mention the blu ray recorder you also need. All in all PS3 piracy is wrong and is simply not worth it. Congratz to the homebrew makers out there but please do not ruin the PS3 for everyone by enabling piracy. It will mean the death of the PS3

psp games sucked before the cfw… you honestly believe devs make shitty games cuz of piracy? no. devs are just running out of ideas (with a few exceptions). and wii games sucked since the wii came out with like 3 decent games that are just updated versions of old Nintendo franchises… also a vast majority of homebrew games arent as satisfying because they gets dropped and are left unfinished. ps3 backups will happen sooner or later so just accept it and move on, i do however belive that there should be a psn restriction so that if a pirate did ‘steal’ a game they have to purchase the full game for online play

for the record, you can run backups via internal HDD or via USB of ps3. having a bluray drive with read and write capabilities can cost you a lot. it’s not wise to backup ps3 games on a bluray. it’s not cost efficient, as of the moment. PS3′s hack is similar to PSP.

I am sorry but how old are you? Do you even know what your talking about? Dyey-em and DeathThrash are correct. PSP doesn’t have great support that’s is why it is failing. The WII the last time I checked is doing pretty good. And ps3 backups have been in circulation since last summer. Where have you been? And do you that there are legitimate reason to enable backup managers? Why they heck why I want to play a game that I bought off a disk when I could install it on the HD where it save me wear and tear on the drive itself and works faster and also it just more convenient. I think you should research stuff before you start saying things and don’t know what your talking about.

Please don’t allow backups or cheat homebrews to be run. Hacks were meant for homebrew, stay true to your code.

If sacrificing the ability to play your own backups will prevent piracy, why not? For once people should not be selfish. I’d personally want to be able to play my own backups, but since this feature will eventually lead to piracy, I’d rather not then.

i think this is the short term solution for sony’s problem. ps3 rootkeys are out, there’s no turning back, it’s either make a new hardware (which will be cracked in another way, good example: PSP) or they will just play cat and mouse again.

1. removing other os after saying they wouldnt(google it theres a link to it somewhere)

i sold my ps3(im buying one again soon tho after i found out about the “hack”) and went back to xbox.

3. theyre security system was shown to be garbage. instead of sueing geo and fail sony should fire/sue the guy that lied and told em it was a random number generator that in reality didnt randomize shit.

sony is accusing geo and others of creating a potential millions of dollars loss when the source for that is sony themselves.
whoever gave the ok to have a “random number generator” be static is/are the ones who compromised/risked ps3′s security.
at the time they claimed it was unhackable they probly believed the random number generator was why.
they most likely had no knowledge that some lazy fuck in THEIR own company was lying to them.
if it was actually random then the ps3 division of this site may not even exist.
4. making this whole thing public, which peeks interest for others to get into pirating/hacking.
i personally didnt even know about the psp(i got one at launch but sold it after a yr or so because the games sucked and at the time XMB had little to no features(didnt even have a browser).
i was googling psp cuz i was gona by one used come tax time, i heard they added a browser(which blew ass) and better games came out so i wanted to take the psp road again. just typing “PSP” in google=info to cfw isos etc(so i deff rebought one and theres no way I’d go back to being totally legit, you just have more fun with a hacked psp. pirate or not)
they should’ve keep it hush hush as much as they could
now this stuff is even on ign(meaning more people’ll look into it and see how easy it is, more pirates=more “potential” loss for sony
5. take one hacker down and another takes their place, just like the war on terror its endless nonsense. in the end people only suffer and no one wins. i imagine theres plenty of hackers in the shadows,waiting on this ps3 case which i think started because once again sony lied with”we’ll fix it with FW updates”.

but i’d prefer sony getting little HB-Apps for free into the PSN-Store and just selling their own Apps….. Like some kind of third-party-section in the shop where everyone can upload HB so that Sony can check it and if it’s useful and legal in distinct frame then sign them and share them to the world…..
i know this sounds a bit naive and idealistic but let’s dream a little bit and believe that there is a little humanity left in any person
